February 2023

Assisted a veteran with rent payment

Working with a Courage to Call counselor.  A female veteran suffered a stroke and couldn’t work.  She got behind on her rent and requested assistance.  PVO made a rent payment that kept the veteran from becoming homeless.

Veteran transportation

Provided a veteran with a gas card to use in getting to VA appointments in Oceanside.

Provided a homeless veteran with payment for storage facility where all personal items were kept.

Disabled veteran assistance

A disabled Escondido veteran needed help with rent payment.  Worked with  VASH counselor to keep the veteran in his apartment and avoid homelessness

Repaired hot water leak under a veteran’s home

PVO contracted with a veteran plumber to repair a leak that was found under a veterans home.

Provided grocery store gift cards to unemployed veteran

PVO gave two grocery store gift cards to an unemployed veterna needing food assistance.

Provided a veteran with utility bill assistance while he was recovering from a stroke

A veteran and his disabled wife got behind in utility payments after he had a stroke that left him unable to work.  PVO paid the utility bill in full.

They sent the following message to PVO “Thank you all so much!  You don’t know how happy this makes us! It’s such a relief to get this taken care of.  For the future, I’d like your information so I can make donations to this organization when we get back on our feet.  You made our day!  God is good and we’re so blessed to have received help.”

Assisted a disabled veteran with utility bill payment

A disabled veteran needed help with a utility bill while resolving a disability issue with the VA.

Assisted a homeless veteran transitioning to housing

Helped a recent homeless veteran recover stored items for a move into subsidized housing.  PVO paid a past due storage fee that allowed the veteran to recover personal items from storage.

Made a financial donation to the WAVE Academy.

PVO made a financial donation to the WAVE Academy for Aquatic Bodywork Therapy to veterans grappling with Post-Traumatic Stress.

PVO assisted a veteran during medical treatment

PVO provided financial assistance to a veteran unable to work while undergoing radiation and chemotherapy treatments.

PVO assisted a veteran with a vehicle registration

PVO helped an Escondido veteran pay the vehicle registration fees on a car that was donated to the veteran by a local church.

Donated to the Wounded Warrior Home Project

PVO made a financial donation to the Wounded Warrior Home project, serving homeless veterans experiencing the effects of Post Traumatic Stress or Traumatic Brain Injury  to aid them in transitioning back from the front lines to the home front.

Assisted a disabled veteran

PVO assisted a recently discharged disabled veteran with a car payment and gasoline gift cards while the veteran is attending a trade school and awaiting VA disability assistance.

Thanksgiving meal donations to MCAS Miramar

PVO purchased $250 of Thanksgiving meal items and donated all to the MCAS Miramar Command Chaplain for distribution to  Marine Corps families.

Donations to San Diego VA Medical Center

PVO made a cash donation to VAMC Volunteer Services to purchase shoes for needy veterans receiving medical care.  PVO purchased a large quantity of men’s underwear and socks for needy veteran patients at VAMC.

 

Assisted an Escondido veteran with a utility payment

A veteran requested assistance with paying an electricity utility bill.  The veteran is employed at the San Diego airport but required a medical operation that was done at the VA Medical Center. The recovery period was longer than anticipated and the veteran is still not back at his job.  PVO made the requested utility payment for this veteran.

Food Assistance for an unemployed veteran

PVO provided an unemployed veteran with grocery store gift cards to purchase food for his family.

Helped a veteran with relocation moving expenses

A veteran requested assistance with moving expenses for relocation to San Diego.  The move allowed this single parent veteran to start her own small business and provide for her family.

Provided housing payment assistance

PVO helped a disabled veteran with temporary financial assistance for an apartment rental.

Transportation assistance for an Imperial Beach veteran

PVO provided a veteran with gasoline gift cards for the veteran to attend classes at a local college for training and certification in a field that will provide opportunities for a better job and advancement.

PVO made a financial donation to Honor Flight San Diego

PVO provided Honor Flight San Diego with a cash donation for assisting San Diego area WW2 and Korean War veterans to visit memorial sites in Washington, DC.

Forwarded a donation to the Poway Veterans Park in memory of Stan Kaminski

PVO received donations from the public for long-time friend of Poway veterans and area restaurant owner Stan Kaminski.  PVO coordinated the collection of  these funds at the request of the Kaminski family and Poway City Councilman Jim Cunningham.  PVO turned over the donated Kaminski memorial funds to the Poway Veterans Park for upkeep and maintenance to this veterans memorial site.

A Santee veteran working at a part time job requested PVO help with food purchases.  We provided the veteran with several supermarket gift cards.

PVO provided assistance to a needy veteran for DMV vehicle registration and  food shopping gift cards.

PVO provided financial assistance to a disabled Pacific Beach veteran after a stroke left him unable to work.

Poway Veteran Yard Cleanup

Poway veteran recently had a stroke and his spouse requested help with cleaning the back yard. PVO provided a work party for the outside work and hauled refuse to the dump.

Poway Veteran Financial and Other Assistance

PVO provided financial assisted to a Poway veteran working part time and renting a room. This veteran is under VA care and needed help with a variety of personal problems. PVO arranged for counseling and assistance with finding alternate living facilities through a veteran’s assistance program.

San Marcos Veteran Assistance for a Shower Chair

PVO received a referral for a disabled Marine Corps veteran living in San Marcos. The veteran is unable to step into his bathtub due to disability and requested a shower bench. PVO purchased a suitable device, delivered it to the veteran’s home and assembled it. The bench is a good fit for the bathroom and the veteran’s spouse is well pleased with PVO support.

PVO repaired/replaced several plumbing fixtures.

Vista Disabled Veteran Home Repair Assistance

PVO made home repairs and replaced some termite damaged wood on the garage.

Financial Assistance to a Veteran for Heart Surgery

PVO made a Go Fund Me donation for an area veteran needing assistance with medical bills related to heart surgery.

Ramona Disabled Veteran Plumbing Assistance

PVO purchased and installed a hot water heater and several plumbing fixtures

PVO assisted the widow of a recently deceased veteran needing home repairs, food assistance and registering her vehicle that is needed for transport to her job.

A Korean War veteran requested PVO assistance in renovations/repairs needed on his mobile home.  PVO initiated a grant request through the Home Depot Foundation.

A disabled veteran requested PVO assistance with general clean-up/hauling away accumulated personal items from his rural property.

Replaced Broken Refrigerator

A veteran requested assistance with a broken refrigerator.  PVO acquired a replacement, delivered and installed the new refrigerator.

A veteran request PVO assistance during a period of unemployment.  PVO made a direct payment on the veterans account at a utility company.

Provided Food and Propane for Winter

A disabled veteran residing on Palomar Mountain requested PVO assistance.  His wife is the sole source of family income and required hospitalization.  PVO provided food baskets and purchased propane for the veteran to use in the upcoming winter season.

Transport Donations to the Philippines

A disabled veteran requested assistance in transporting a large amount of personally acquired relief supplies in response to a plea for help due to a typhoon disaster in the Philippines.  PVO transported the veterans donations to the Philippines relief transport site.

Food and Utility Payment Assisstance

A veteran requested financial assistance due to a period of unemployment.  PVO assisted by reviewing the veterans financial situation and past due utility bills.  PVO provided the veteran with food baskets and made a direct payment to a utility company for the veteran.

Appliance Disposal

A veteran requested assistance in disposing of three large appliances.  PVO assisted by removing the appliances from the home and delivering the items to a scrap yard.  The PVO received a donation of $20 for the scrapped items

A disabled veteran requested PVO assistance in a large scale clean-up of the veterans property.  PVO helped in disposing of a large quantity of the veterans personal items.

Relocate Closer to Family

A veteran requested PVO assistance to help in relocating to another state to be closer to his family.  PVO provided assistance in packing the veterans goods for shipment and disposing of items that were scheduled for donation to local area charities.
